Updating your ESTA
If you wish to update your electronic travel authorization, we will guide you through the process.
Update of personal data
In order to travel to the United States, you must have a residence permit. This can be either:
- a Green card
- an USA visa
- an ESTA visa
If you have an ESTA, you must make sure that all the information mentioned corresponds to reality before your departure for the United States. U.S. authorities, who are very involved in their country’s homeland security, screen individuals who are allowed to enter the U.S. to verify their registered information. They have full powers of entry and can deny you access to their territory if they find irregularities.
The ESTA is valid for two years, so it is possible that over time some of your data may no longer be up to date, concerning your :
- Passport number
- Your identity
- Your health
- Your criminal record
In this case, you must update your ESTA. The procedure to be followed is the same as that used for an initial application.
This can be done directly via the Internet. A questionnaire to fill out is submitted on the official ESTA website.
Update of information related to the stay
In case you wish to change the physical address at which you are traveling to the United States, you can change your ESTA online, without having to reapply for ESTA. This free operation is also valid if you change your email address.
Only these two pieces of information can be updated after the authorization is received. In all other cases, you must update and pay the price of an ESTA again.
