Validity of the ESTA declaration
All non-U.S. citizens must have administrative authorization to travel to the United States. It can be either :
- A Green Card permanent resident card
- A US travel visa
- An ESTA electronic travel authorization.
The ESTA is the solution most frequently chosen by travelers planning to visit the United States for tourism or business reasons. This is because the ESTA declaration is the easiest and least time-consuming process to complete. The price of the ESTA is also lower than that of the visa.
In order to be considered valid, the information provided in your ESTA application must be accurate. Indeed, the U.S. authorities, who are very involved in their country’s internal security, can refuse access to travelers without an up-to-date authorization.
An ESTA declaration is valid for two years. If your passport, marital status, health or criminal record has changed in the meantime, it is imperative that you apply again. The application process is the same as the one required for an initial application and you will have to pay the processing fee again.
ESTA processing times
The ESTA declaration must be made at least 72 hours before departure to the United States. You can do it directly on the official ESTA website. Your ESTA declaration is submitted to the U.S. Travel Authorization Authority. In most cases, you will receive your authorization the same day, and in any case, within 72 hours.
